Biennial Census Of Manufacturers To Start In North Carolina
Field work for the biennial census of manufactures and the new census of distribution is set to begin soon in North Carolina. James P. Cooley, chief special agent, will oversee the enumeration in 14 larger cities with Raleigh as the headquarters for the two branches. Names of cities include Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington, Winston Salem, Durham, Gastonia, Goldsboro, Greensboro, High Point, New Bern, Rocky Mount, Salisbury, Wilson, and Asheville. The 1827 manufacture census was conducted by the state department of conservation and development, which will cooperate again this year, along with local and other state agencies. A feature is the first nationwide census of distribution, prompted by wholesalers and retailers, collecting two classes of information.
