Edwards Air Force Base confirms a U2 high altitude reconnaissance aircraft on a routine training flight is missing after failing to return by about 9 to 10:15 p.m. local time. The incident recalls the 1960 Francis Gary Powers mission in the Soviet Union.
The civil ian space agency staged a dawn display at Wallops Island Virginia with rocket launches to study high altitude conditions.
