Raps Penalty Tax On Large Corporations
Washington march 2 4 percent Republican members of the house ways and means committee charged the administration’s tax revision bill uses a penalty tax to attack large corporations owned by families or a few individuals. They call it vicious and iniquitous and say it would deepen Roosevelt era depression while Democrats argue it could relieve hardship and inequities. The bill would lift the undistributed profits tax for small corporations and levy a 12 to 16 percent income tax, impose a 16 percent base on large firms, plus a 4 percent undistributed profits levy, and levy up to 20 percent surtax on some after deductions. Fixed capital gains rates from 16 to 39.2 percent would apply based on asset holding time.
