Wilmington March 1 AP A sharp drop in Atlantic Coast Line railroad revenues and net railway operating income occurred in January 1927 compared with January 1926. January 1927 revenues were 7,493,321 versus 9,014,506 in 1926, while net income fell to 1,298,718 from 2,178,637.
Three prominent native liberals and a neutral prepare to meet liberal general Jose Moncada in Matagalpa to urge peace and end his campaign. Washington March 1 AP Administrative steps were under way as the navy plans to take over the Elk Hills naval oil reserve after a Supreme Court ruling voided Doheny’s lease as illegal fraud. The Navy will appoint Rear Admiral H H Rousseau to oversee the reserve while Teapot Dome matters loom in April hearings. President Coolidge remains hopeful for a three or five power agreement to limit naval armament, noting mixed replies from Britain and Japan versus France and Italy.
A petition signed by nearly all High Point lawyers and several political leaders urges President Coolidge to appoint Johnson J. Hayes of Greensboro as judge of the U S district court for the middle district of North Carolina. The bar’s support is strong and Hayes is noted as a leading North Carolina attorney.
Denver reports a Colorado town remained cut off from the rest of the state for over 48 hours as winter storms battered the region. Forecasters warn of more heavy weather and strained travel conditions.

New York March 1 AP Report says A T Baker and Company velour mills in Philadelphia and North Carolina have been acquired by Collins and Aikman Company in a $15.6 million consolidation. The mills will operate with Goslings and Aikman plants in Philadelphia, aimed at economies and higher output. A Baker Jr will stay as chair while Melville G Curtis becomes president.
