Dr. Louis A. Bikle, 96, believed the state’s oldest Mason, died at his daughter’s home in Concord after years of declining health. Born November 6, 1834, he taught, preached, and later taught again in Concord and surrounding communities before funeral services set for tomorrow at 4 p.m.. he is survived by a daughter and his brother Dr. P. M. Bible, dean of Gettysburg College.
Chicago June 29 Capone on guilty plea to prohibition conspiracy and federal income tax offenses is reset to July 30 on motion by his counsel. Capone was to be sentenced tomorrow and will begin serving after the hearing. A maximum 32 year term is possible but court opinion favors around three years. final sentence lies with Judge Wilkerson.
A suspected informer, possibly a smuggler, was believed to be sent over Niagara Falls by rum runners. He rode a disabled boat and died after authorities found a sawn oar likely cut to fail in the swift current, initially thought an accident.
Four bandits robbed the Canal Bank and Trust Ewing street branch in New Orleans today of several thousand dollars and shot a policeman, but the money was recovered from an abandoned car after their flight.
Police chased robbers from a bank across 12 blocks. Two men were captured after a car stop and a rear-door escape attempt. James Jennewin, a police chauffeur, was wounded but not seriously hurt. The looters fled with cash from pillow slips amid another recent bank holdup.

Raleigh June 29 AP J B Brewer and T E Bobbitt president and cashier of the defunct Citizens Bank of Wake Forest were found guilty in Wake County Superior Court of violating state banking laws. S W Brewer a director was acquitted. Sentences not yet pronounced.
Khabarovsk June 29 AP reports more than six hours after American fliers Wiley Post and Harold Gatty left Khabarovsk on their 2,100 mile non stop flight to Nome Alaska there was no sign of their return. Weather was good and takeoff was at 5 p m local time.
John J. Raskob, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, lauds President Hoover's debt suspension plan as stabilizing for world conditions if accepted. He and his daughter Elizabeth arrived in New York aboard the Bremen after a European tour.
James T. Jardine resigns after 11 years as director of Oregon State College agricultural experiment station to lead the office of experiment stations at the U S Department of Agriculture. He is the brother of former Agriculture Secretary William M. Jardine.
Secretary Hurley announced he had practically decided to visit the Philippine Islands this summer to acquaint himself more intimately with the details of their problems.
In Little Rock Arkansas on June 29 Dr Hay Watson Smith pastor of the Second Presbyterian decried what he called fanaticism and here sy hunting within his denomination. Ark synod investigates his views on evolution after Montreat moves by Dr W M McPheeters of Columbia Theological Seminary to probe Smiths beliefs. The case has sparked disputes over orthodoxy and church authority with future inquiry ordered for the fall.
Coroner D W Biggs will hold an inquest into the death of Pete Dunn a 50 year old Indian struck by Wakulla race dispute suspect Alex Easterlin who surrendered after the incident. The event occurred near Wakulla Sun Easterlin following a dispute during a race.
The summer conference for adults of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian church opened today at Bonclarken assembly grounds near Hendersonville.
Coroner's jury convened after the fatal chest wound of Johnston county Democratic leader Jesse J Williams. Williams was found dying at home and buried yesterday. his wife says he shot himself. The jury will reconvene early this week with a definite time yet to be set.
Lena Wueneche shot her husband L. L. Krippner after he refused to lend $100 for a Florida trip. Krippner was wounded in the leg and side but not seriously. Wueneche was struck in the body and remained in critical condition with even chance of recovery.
Raleigh June 29. North Carolinians will live under multiple new laws effective July 1. The highway law shifts county road maintenance to the state and brings in about 3,000 prisoners from counties. A judge may appoint a thirteenth juror who cannot vote unless needed to replace an incapacitated juror. State employee salaries face a 10 percent cut. drivers with judgments over $100 must pay or prove inability to pay to continue driving. and girls under 18 are barred from night factory work. New revenue, appropriations and school bills also take effect.
RALEIGH June 29 The state board of education named Henry E. Erwin as superintendent of education of Transylvania county. The job is usually filled by the county democratic executive committee, but if vacancies remain in 30 days the state board must appoint, said Dr A T Allen superintendent of public instruction.
The Southeastern Association of Photo Engravers opened its second annual convention in Asheville. Henry W. Grady of Atlanta serves as president.
New York June 29 District Attorney Elvin Edwards announced handwriting experts retained by the state found letters from Starr Faithfull to Dr. G Jameson Carr authentic in which she threatened self harm The DA believed the girl was murdered and said the experts' report would go to the grand jury the following day
Otto Hillig and Horriis, noted aviators, landed at Tempelhof Airdrome in Berlin after crossing the ocean last week aboard the Liberty. They were greeted by the Danish Ambassador and Lufthansa officials. The pair had departed Copenhagen earlier and expect to return to Copenhagen to be received by the king.

A federal prohibition agent and a resident were wounded in a raid on a New Orleans area house as agents searched for fugitive Joseph Hymes. C W Prather was shot in the shoulder and Joseph Alcaldo was shot in the leg after a door shot at the door panel. Deputy Marshal Frank Lower returned fire and the scene was under federal investigation.
In Jonquieres Quebec June 29 eight Potvin children aged one to eleven perished when a farmer Xavier Potvin home caught fire. He tried to reach them but smoke blocked his access.
