Revised Piedmont health plan wins city approval

The Piedmont Triad Health Council won approval for a revised acute care plan covering 11 North Carolina counties. The plan aims to reduce duplicated hospital services and costs while avoiding references to ranking hospitals. The council also approved forming Piedmont Triad Health Systems Agency to pursue state regional health planning. Local doctors opposed the original plan, especially those at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Mayor Franklin Shirley supported the revision and aid to federal funds eligibility.
