State school aid debated for North Carolina orphanages

Oxford orphanage has leased a building to join the county system, potentially triggering state support if recognized by the county board.

State Aid Rules Tie Orphanage Schools to Public System
The state would fund a six month term only if a school operates under state and county supervision. Orphanages maintaining independent schools or nonstandard curricula lose state aid, though children may attend local public schools. Assistant AG Frank Nash notes no aid while control rests with the orphanage. He did not comment on Oxford.
