Caldwell trial hinges on claimed knowledge of trust violations
Nashville jurors heard testimony that Rogers Caldwell, former financier, was “fully familiar” with trust violations tied to the Hardeman county trust indictment. J Dewitt Carter, ex-vice president at two Caldwell banks, said a trust report shown July 12, 1980 listed a flagrant violation, noting Caldwell discussed the matter with others. Carter, called the state’s ace witness, linked Caldwell to the alleged transactions while defense lawyers argued Caldwell was unaware.
