Boll Weevil Infestations Grow Serious in NC Fields
RALEIGH Boll weevil infestations are becoming serious in many cotton counties of North Carolina according to entomologist George D. Jones. He says counts show treatments should start at squaring in more fields than last year with 40 to 50 percent infestations observed in several Southern and Eastern localities. Growers are urged to inspect fields before squaring and begin treatment at squaring where weevils are present at one per 100 plants or where injury is noted. if squaring has begun, insecticides should be applied in fields with 10 percent of squares punctured.
