John Marden a mechanic from Phenix Rhode Island took home beef and rice shorted in a pot. His wife added rice and the pot exploded scattering scalding beef onto her lap injuring him as he smoked nearby. The cause is blamed on gas generated by burning rice at the bottom of the pot.

Edward Themas, 32, a Central Railroad machine shop employee, was killed by his 15 year old stepson William Wingard after a quarrel with his wife. Wingard fired twice, striking Themas in the thigh. coroner's jury rules willful murder. Wingard held without statement.
