Medal of Honor Winner Didn't Know He Was Hero

Williams, a 32 year old first lieutenant in the Army Special Forces, unexpectedly earned the Medal of Honor for a nightlong defense at Dong Xoai in Viet Nam on June 9 10 1965. Williams kept his unit intact despite wounds, led defense operations, and later recalled no sense of being a hero. He remains reluctant to discuss combat, yet stresses the justness of the mission and a desire to protect his men and country.
