Blind Baby Uses Echo Device to Shape World
Dennis Daughters, blinded at birth, wears a sonar device to detect objects by echo. He can judge direction and size, identify his toy caterpillar, and even turn his mother on or off with eye focus. The project, led by Dr Bower and John Watson, shows promise but needs more study to assess benefits for blind infants. The family asks to keep their address private. A separate Linville item reports the first Singing on the Mountain event at Grandfather Mountain featuring Roy Acuff and others, with Sen Robert Morgan speaking.
