Whiskey production to resume for August under wartime controls
Washington reports that whiskey making will resume for one month in August to counter shortages and supply botleggers. The War Production Board said 40 to 50 million gallons of 86 90 proof blended whiskey would be released, about a quarter of a normal year's supply, with tighter distribution oversight urged by officials. Rep Bryson of South Carolina advocates a wartime prohibition bill alongside the temporary release.
