Federal Pie Eaters Must Qualify For All Positions
Washington June 22 Deserving Democrats line up at the federal pie counter with as many as 25 000 to 30 000 jobs to be filled after Roosevelt's vacation. Merit, not political support, will decide appointments as new agencies and emergency acts create posts from collectors to district attorneys and internal revenue men. Ickes says best qualified will get state administrator spots for public works and Tennessee Valley Authority roles despite politics. Political ties matter little to one senator who insists qualifications decide Muscle Shoals postings.
