Forerunner Garage Era Began With North Main Stand
The one room brick hot dog stand on North Main Street, torn down last week, is hailed as the forerunner of High Point's modern garages. C. F. Farley, pioneer dealer, recalls his bicycle shop, the first Pope-Columbia motorcycle, and the initial motor car test run on a street used to only horse drawn vehicles. Farley arrived in 1898 and expanded into the adjoining store, later operating a Rambler with a horse drawn tow and a daring first road trial.
