Tomorrow marks a red letter day on church and secular calendars with the third Sunday in June dedicated to fathers and May to mothers. The observance has grown as merchants promote Father’s Day while ministers use the occasion to stress a basic Christian principle: God.
M. T. Lambeth of the Methodist Home in Winston-Salem will address the 11 o'clock service at First Methodist Church tomorrow in the minister’s absence on vacation. Lambeth, a Brown Summit native, studied at Cello High, UNC, and Columbia University earning an MA in education. He taught in Greensboro and led as principal in High Point and Clayton, and served as superintendent in Thomasville, Beaufort, and Statesville. He has long been active in Rotary International since 1932 and has held lay leadership roles in the Methodist Church.
Local churches announce timed Bible School sessions for this week and summer. First the gro Holiness Church holds Commencement Bible School exercises tomorrow at 7 30 pm with faculty including Mrs J A Grout and Mrs Roy Warner. English St Baptist and First Methodist report full attendance and daily sessions from 9 to 11 am through June 24. Hickory Chapel Wesleyan plans vacation Bible school from Monday to July 1 with evening classes at 6 pm for children and adults.
About 135 college students and youths from the Western North Carolina Conference attend a four day Chi gathering at Lake Junaluska Assembly. Worth Soest and K C Conference M Y F lead sessions with Edith Marie Bowman of Greensboro serving as secretary. Rev D D Holt of Greensboro heads the state Methodist College Foundation.
