State Debt Is Cut Nearly 42 Million
North Carolina will reduce its net state debt by 41,537,214.04 during the decade ending July 1, Treasurer Charles M. Johnson said. Governor Hoey noted a 26,662,000 reduction during his four year term ending next January despite issuing bonds for permanent improvements and new buildings. Hoey said the state has the biggest building program yet the debt declined, unlike most other states where debt rose. Only seven other states matched or beat the reduction.

French Armies To Continue Fighting
London sources report it is probable that General Albert Nogues leading the North African force and General Mittelhauser in the Near East have decided to keep fighting. They lack direct Bordeaux government contact and cannot verify Havas agency claims of a war continuation with a government in England and air and naval forces based in the United Kingdom. Mittelhauser commands over 200,000 in Syria. Nogues' force size is unreported.
