Parking Meters and Slugs Stir Up Thomasville

An often criticized but widely discussed issue in Thomasville centers on parking meters and the clever slugs used to defeat them. The piece catalogs common slug types, including bottle caps, tokens, drilled coins, and washers, and notes the anti-slug fines. It highlights the city’s revenue impact, reporting 1955–56 receipts and the break down of payments to Magee-Hale Park-O-Meter Co. It also explains the 50 percent revenue split with the city and the broader toll on street repairs and maintenance from slug incidents.
