Veterans Tax Exemption Case Urged To Supreme Court
Local attorney J Allen Austin urged an early U S Supreme Court ruling to settle disputes over property tax exemptions for veterans compensation funded purchases. The NC case tests whether money paid to a veteran is exempt from ad valorem tax and if exemption may apply by investment ratio. The issue affects millions in North Carolina and may draw involvement from the American Legion and Andrew Jackson post. Two lower court opinions upheld taxation of property bought with veterans loan funds.
