Albania charges Khrushchev plot with Hungarians

Vienna AP report says Albania's pro communist paper accuses Khrushchev of aiding the 1956 Hungarian revolt to oust the Stalinist leadership. It claims Khrushchev protected Nagy’s short lived government with Tito’s help, while Moscow crushed the revolt.

Man Five Children Die In Pond

In Elm City near Wilson County a 60-year-old man Hector McPhail led a picnic for five Wilson children. The Elm City Fire Department dragged the farm pond and recovered all six bodies. Coroner Dr. R. E. Goudy ruled the deaths accidental drownings. The children were Alice Lee Artis Sandra Artis Freddie Artis Myra Artis and Issaid Washington all Wilson Negroes.

Freeman Promises Efforts to Save Tobacco Program

Washington AP Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman told Governor Terry Sanford and five North Carolina tobacco growers the department will do everything possible to defend the tobacco price and supply stabilization program against a pending court challenge. They urged a quick New Orleans ruling to prevent uncertainty as flue cured tobacco growers near planting deadlines. Sanford warned a delay could force two acres of tobacco to be grown for the price of one if controls are struck down, threatening export sales and price support. The governors and Freeman, joined by the department’s general counsel John Bagwell, pressed for a favorable decision this term, stressing the program’s long background and grower discipline via acreage allotments.

Moore Tapes TV Programs for NC Governor bid

Dan Moore stayed near his Raleigh campaign HQ conferring with aides and taping TV programs for his bid to be the Democratic nominee. He will appear with opponent Richardson Preyer Tuesday at meetings of the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters in New Bern and the Association of County Commissioners in Morehead City. Moore urged intervention in a Georgia Florida court action blocking a 10 percent tobacco acreage cutback, saying it could ruin North Carolina’s flue cured tobacco support program.
