Many New Faces Be In Legislature

Raleigh June 14 Many familiar faces will be missing when the North Carolina legislature convenes in January returns from the democratic primaries compiled today indicate. Its full state senate is altered by changes in membership and the loss of its most prominent members. Senator Thomas L. Johnson of Robeson was appointed to the superior court bench and did not seek re election. Guy Teaver from Buncombe will not return as he is now county judge. Both the finance and appropriations committees lose their chairmen. Senator Tapp of Lenoir was defeated by Dr Hardy. Senator Womble of Forsyth did not run. Other changes include candidates for solicitor and new facing races in the fifth district. The senate loses several distinguished members by death. Meantime Mecklenberg shows a pattern of returning sons of judges. Several senators face stiff primaries with leaders in highway patrol and local legislation roles remaining influential.
