In Raleigh AP reports the House approved a record one billion dollar general appropriations bill to fund state agencies institutions and public schools for the coming year including Gov Sanford's school improvements program. A separate 65.5 million dollar tax bill with a 3 percent food sales tax was expected to follow to finance the appropriations. The House also backed a strict small loans bill after rejecting a Braswell reconsideration move and scheduled further debate. Sen Cutlar Moore announced immediate resignation effective Friday. Hector MacLean will succeed him as U S customs collector at Wilmington and plans to run for the Senate in 1963. The House appropriations committee also approved 300,000 dollars to add 15 patrol officers to the State Highway Patrol over the next two fiscal years.
