Greensboro sales tax approved after heated public hearing
Guilford County commissioners vote 4-0 to impose a one cent sales tax with collection starting August 1. Chairman Dale Montgomery says the package aims to fund a $50 million five year improvements program and to provide county and city services, amid calls for a vote or tax alternatives. Commissioners note potential future burdens from the General Assembly and possible tax base erosion. Former officials and residents urge voter involvement or a graduated tax as alternatives.
