Erosion Study Shows Halved Sediment in High Point Lake
SCS official reports streams feeding High Point City Lake carry about 50 percent less sediment today than in 1934. City Public Works Director Sam H. Strickland says highway banks are now the main sediment source. Mark P. Connaughton from the SCS in Washington spent a week in High Point studying the 40 000 acre watershed and its sediment inflow. Each ton of sediment was reduced since 1934.

Erosion Program Cuts Sediment Into High Point Reservoir
A watershed wide effort led by the Soil Conservation Service and farmers has reduced sediment inflow to the Deep River reservoir by 50 percent. Practices since 1934 include contour farming, terraces, and rotations. The project, four miles northeast of High Point, began with a 1928 construction cost and now supports a $1.2 million investment with pumps and a $500,000 recreation center.

Lightning Protection For Trees In Farm Settings
The article explains methods to shield valuable trees from lightning using copper cables and ground rods. It stresses careful installation at the highest points, trenching to the root zone, and grounding, to provide effective protection. It also notes the aim is to educate owners to recognize proper workmanship rather than becoming rod installation experts. The piece closes with a report from Ridgecrest where Senator Josh Lee outlined Christ's life to 1,309 students at a Southwide Baptist Retreat.
