Five New Projects Approved for Fifth District Roads
Construction work began on five district road projects in the fifth district reported by J. W. Mills. Projects include 18 miles on route 62 from Asheboro to Albemarle, two new reinforced concrete overpasses on the Norfolk and Southern at Mt Gilead and Star, and extensions on routes 90 and 62 in Davidson and Randolph counties. Contracts were awarded by the North Carolina State Highway Commission in Raleigh.

A large crowd of parents and children gathered at the Junior High School lot on South Main Street for the inauguration of a two week engagement by the R C Lee riding devices in High Point for the sixth consecutive year under local boy scouts. Local troops guarded children and operated a soft drink stand supervised by Earl Winslow, scout master.

R F Edmisten chief commissary steward USN arrived to relieve S B Stovall signalman first class USN in navy recruiting district. Stovall to join cruising vessel within months due to shore duty expiration. Edmisten, a Hickory NC native with sixteen years in the navy, has seven years foreign service in Europe and Asia and most recently served at Florence DC recruiting station after duty with Asiatic fleet.

Man Escapes Serious Injury After 220-Volt Fall From Pole
C F Causey of the city light and water department brushed a live 220 volt wire while wiring a private home on Oak Hill. He fell about 25 feet but landed in soft dirt and suffered only shock and bruises with a burned finger and a pulled back. He drove home for treatment and returned to work sore but able. Causey resides at 441 West Lexington Avenue.
