Prison fire heroism in stairway rescue and inmate bravery

Chief Deputy Duane Harrell recalls Moore risked his life with 10 or 15 saved, going back for more despite smoke and no oxygen mask. Spokesman John Spolski notes Moore's second rescue bid failed after three or four steps. Elvis Webster, a prisoner, rushed back in to pull three men out, grabbing an air pack from a fireman. Fire started in a mattress in a hospital cell and spread to adjacent rooms, with dense smoke filling the building as inmates called for help. Limited access via a single stairway and elevator delayed rescues for over an hour.
