New Tax Idea Aims to Fund Wildlife Conservation Nationwide
Missouri voters approved an earmarked one eighth cent sales tax to fund conservation programs. Officials estimate about 26 million dollars the first year with a personal cost of 3 to 4 dollars per resident. The plan aims to expand funding beyond hunting and fishing licenses and inspire similar proposals nationwide. In North Carolina, the Carolina Conservationist program invites both sportsmen and nonhunting residents to contribute to nongame and endangered species efforts with growing interest.
