British seek Soviet clarifications on Hungary policy
In London June 9 1947 the British ambassador to Moscow was ordered to obtain clarification of Soviet policy toward Hungary. Parliament member Hester McNeil cautioned it was premature to judge events and hoped changes in Hungary would not derail parliamentary democracy. The ambassador was instructed to discuss the matter with the Soviet government to elucidate Hungary’s recent developments.
