Randolph Commissioners Cut Deeply Into Budget

Randolph County commissioners ended a near midnight session by deep cuts across departments to curb next year’s expenditures. A special session was set for 4:30 pm Wednesday to finalize the 1876-77 budget. County Manager Frank Boling said a tentative budget should be ready by Wednesday afternoon after finance staff convert the day’s cuts into figures. The Social Services cut was the most drastic, with final totals not yet available. There was mention of a possible five percent county employee pay raise without tax-rate increase, though final decision awaited finance department work. Indications show a raise may occur even if taxes rise.
