Nine planes from the north attacked Seoul in the war’s largest Red air raid. bombs hit near President Rhee’s mansion injuring seven, including a photographer. another near the press billets and outside the billet injuring five Koreans.

18 Persons Die Violent Deaths Across North Carolina

The Associated Press reports at least 18 people died over the weekend in North Carolina due to violent incidents. Fatalities include Ramsey Toler in a Highway 57 wreck near Roxboro, Richard Brines drowned near the Yadkin River, Willie Hodges found drowned near his Dobson home, Ethel Davis and Charles Royals Jr in a High Point crash, Samuel Woody III in a bicycle collision, Patricia Pittman in a separate auto crash, and related charges against the driver William Rudder.

State College to Open Two Psychology Testing Institutes

State College will open a beginners institute on June 15 and an advanced institute on June 22. The five day programs aim to meet industry needs for scientific procedures in personnel selection. Supreme Court Upholds 1878 DC Race Service Law

The Supreme Court ruled 8-0 that an 1878 DC law requiring restaurants to serve well behaved Negroes at regular prices stands. The decision sent the case back to the appeals court to decide if the 1878 rule repeals a prior 1871 or 1872 provision guaranteeing service to all respectable persons regardless of race.

Convention Opens in Winston-Salem By NC Sons and Daughters

More than 200 delegates gathered for a three day North Carolina Sons and Daughters of Liberty convention in Winston Salem which began yesterday. Reports from state officers were heard during today’s session and officer nominations occurred this afternoon for tomorrow. Memorial services for Patriotic and Fraternal Benefit Society members who died last year were held yesterday led by Mrs. Ora Moore of Durham.

Accounting conference to convene in Blowing Rock

The Middle Atlantic States Paciaeion Conference will meet in Blowing Rock from June 14 to 16 with a full program for delegates. Benjamin A. Wilson of Winston Salem will serve as general chairman. President Eisenhower sent an eleventh hour appeal to Syngman Rhee urging Korea to avoid reckless effort to unify by force. General rain boosts farmers as drought relief arrives

North Carolina farmers and forest firefighters hailed a general rain after more than two weeks of dryness. Proposal To Cut Vet Fund Expected

Washington The House Appropriations Committee plans sharp federal spending cuts to veterans programs to curb abuses and nonessential services. A June 16 vote will advance a 4.3 billion dollar VA bill for fiscal year starting July 1, with medical care for service connected veterans protected. Proposals include ending unlimited free dental care, tightening free hospital and medical aid, eliminating gratuity payments for GI home loans, and lowering schools GI bill reporting fees.

Atomic weapons storage sites strained as U S accelerates production

United States atomic weapons are being produced at a rapid pace, forcing the Atomic Energy Commission to run out of storage sites. AEC chairman Gordon Dean testified May 19 to a House subcommittee that parts of Savannah River in South Carolina have begun operating, signaling possible large scale hydrogen bomb material production. Dock Workers Protest State Regulation
