For Bermuda and other persistent grasses, fumigation with methyl bromide under plastic is advised, while existing plant beds can be covered with black plastic and mulch to suppress weeds. When plants are established, pre emergence chemicals like Cacthal and Diphenamid prevent seed germination after hoeing, followed by mulch to conserve moisture and suppress regrowth.
