Air history project chronicles US wartime aviation growth
Lieut Col Clanton W Williams leads a long term effort to document American military aviation from World War I to World War II. The program collects data from factories, training, and operations to produce a definitive history, guided by President Roosevelt and Henry Arnold, aiming to reveal lessons and preserve posterity. Williams, an Alabama scholar, drew on radio work and a 1942 England visit to shape the narrative.
