British Lacks U S Rescue Equipment For Thetis Tragedy
London June 2 British naval experts lack large scale undersea rescue gear like the United States Navy used to save 33 men from Squalus and must rely on less capable methods to rescue 90 men trapped in the submarine Thetis. An admiralty officer said Britain has no rescue chamber and credited the United States with the only navy equipped for such apparatus. Thetis carries Davis escape gear similar to the US Navy Momsen lungs and has two escape chambers though only the rear chamber is usable in the present emergency.
