Explosion Fatal To Maryland Man At Kent Manufacturing
A 23 year old worker, John Hewitt, was killed instantly in an explosion at the Kent Manufacturing Company powder house in Chesterfield Maryland. Sheriff Gesell called the blast an accident and the plant remains away from the presidential motor route. Hewitt had reported to work about ten minutes before the 8 30 am blast in a mixing room where chemicals for explosives were combined. About 100 other employees were on duty at the plant during the incident. The president was due to visit Washington College nearby for commencement ceremonies later.
