The Supreme Court, in its final term of Justice Van Devanter, agreed to review the constitutionality of loans and grants financing municipal plants. The court adjourned until October, with lingering questions over electric bonds and utility company regulation.

Italian suspect arrested in Franco-Spanish border tunnel between Portbou and Cerbère with a bomb. Authorities say the intent was to blow up the railway link between France and Spain.

Soviet explorers near the pole spoke with their wives in Moscow via a two way hook up established at 11 36 p m after days of tests. The Michail Vodopyanoff plane carried the radio telephone aboard on a 33 meter wavelength.
The Senate passed without debate a measure authorizing construction of six naval auxiliary vessels at an estimated cost of 48 million dollars. The bill moves to the House for consideration.
In Goldsboro Wayne county voters cast ballots in a liquor referendum with heavy turnout but a quiet mood. Officials estimate turnout will be about 16 to 20 percent lower than the last general election where 8 838 ballots were marked.
Mussolini returned to Rome by tri motor plane and planned talks with German war minister Werner von Blomberg on Italy’s role in the Spanish crisis. Randolph county officers hunted for a county road camp escapee missing since about 5 30 yesterday afternoon. The fugitive, described as a Norfolk Virginia native, was unnamed in official reports.
