Paul V McNutt takes helm at United Artists in surprise move
Paul V McNutt, a veteran lawyer and public official, becomes board chairman of United Artists as the ailing studio changes hands. He will focus on international law and insurance, while Frank L McNamee will run the company day to day. The move comes as UA struggles with film industry slumps and rising costs. The deal reshapes ownership once linked to Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin, with McNutt claiming 90 percent stake held by Pickford and Chaplin.
