Morrison urges tariff reform at North Carolina farmers convention
Raleigh July 1 Senator Morrison told the North Carolina federation of home demonstration agents at State college that if President Hoover urges joining the league of nations the United States could take a step toward world peace and prosperity. He spoke at the 29th annual farmers and farm women's convention closing tomorrow night urging tariff readjustment to boost world trade. He blamed trade barriers for crop surpluses and warned isolationism could bring destruction and wars. He criticized the currency and banking system as poorly managed and noted industries including railroads and steel are struggling. He praised demonstration clubs as a boon to the state's agricultural program and aligned with Bailey on the convention’s dire assessments. He planned to repeat the address at Swannanoa.
