President Eisenhower approves an unmanned satellite program aimed at scientific data. Objects would orbit 200-300 miles up at 18 000 mph, potentially lasting days to weeks. If successful by 1957 or 1958, data would be shared globally, with costs around 10 million dollars.
Raleigh reports more than five million dollars in surplus highway funds available for Governor Hodges to allocate to special road and prison projects. State Prisons Director William F.
