Government road labor to get wage raise
Raleigh July 29. E B Jeffress, chairman of the state highway and public works commission, says federal authorities require common road labor be paid at least 30 cents an hour, a 50 percent rise, while skilled laborers get 40 cents. About 11,000 workers are expected to be employed under a road program costing around 11 million dollars, with requests for 50 to 75 million dollars. The commission adjourned to 10 14 days to draft the program details.
