New Jersey salesman wins top prize in 1976 chicken contest
Thomas C. Parvis of Upper Montclair captured the $10,000 first prize in the National Chicken Cooking Contest in Philadelphia. His Sunshine Chicken recipe was created for the event and his wife Elizabeth attended the awards dinner. Second place went to Rose Chang Alexander of San Francisco who cooked Fried Ginger Chicken Thighs. other winners included Ella Marie Malloy, Lauralee Fugazzi, and Nancy Ann Thompson with prizes ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. The contest, tied to the National Broiler Council, drew 51 contestants from across the country, with judges sampling dishes and spectators watching the event.
