Durham reports on John Wesley's role with Methodism. Dr. Frank Baker argues Wesley remained loyal to the Church of England while Methodism formed as a separate society in England and America. The 1784 declaration is seen as enabling self perpetuation rather than creating a new church. Baker outlines three stages of Methodism: movement society and church.
