Old Age a Winner Again in Battle Against the Youth
Jack Quinn, a veteran pitcher, led the Athletics to a 2 to 1 victory over the Boston Red Sox. He allowed eight hits but scattered them until the final inning, when Boston scored once. Gordon Cochrane hit a timely double for Boston and a double steal produced the decisive run. In the National League, Pittsburgh rallied in the tenth to beat the Braves 6 to 5, with Banecroft’s second baseman contributing a double and three singles. Cincinnati swept two from St. Louis 4 to 2 and 3 to 0 behind Rube Benton and Jakie May. May earned his first win in six starts for Cincinnati, and Hornsby added a single.
