Health Plan Proposed to Improve County Jail Care
UNC public health student Mimi Donohue developed a jail health program for Orange County to give prisoners a nurse led screening within 48 hours of admission. The plan includes physical exams, blood pressure checks, TB and STI testing, and referrals to physicians or hospitals with OCCHS follow up. Sheriff Buck Knight supported rapid test readings and cross agency cooperation to implement a local, county driven solution.
