Shuping Opposes Kasper Visit as North Carolina Schools Integrate
Greensboro reports indicate John Kasper may not visit North Carolina as Patriots of North Carolina general counsel C L Shuping warns against it. He says Kasper's planned white citizens councils would harm segregation after Charlotte Greensboro and Winston-Salem voted to admit twelve Negro children. Shuping notes possible repeat of Tennessee tactics could undermine segregation. Greensboro superintendent Ben L Smith also reports calls to transfer white students from two all white schools and states transfers must be in writing. In Charlotte officials say one of five Negro children involved is William Pinkney Hamlin, son of Mr and Mrs Mur.
