Lightweight hollow tile research advances at State College
At North Carolina State College, a $23 400 research phase led by Dr. William C Bell aims to produce low cost light weight structural units using dry and plastic extrusion and burn out mixtures like coal silt and peat. Lab and commercial firing show potential for large tiles with better fire resistance insulation and lighter foundations in modern construction. Further work will study fire resistance and conductivity of tile specimens. A brief note then describes A Andorra, a small republic in the Pyrenees.

Built In Storage Maximizes Small Bathrooms
A Tile Council of America report advises built-ins to add space in compact baths. Ideas include shelving around the wash bowl including under it, a recessed wall cabinet over the water closet, and a floor to ceiling cabinet at a corner tub. Ceramic tile protects counters and tub-adjacent walls while high storage can also hang from the ceiling. Also noted are ancient Indian pueblos around Arizona's Grand Canyon with cliff dwellings along canyon rims.

Insulation Emerges as Key Feature in House Construction
Surveys show insulation ranked highly by prospective buyers for comfort and fuel savings. Insulating board lath provides both a plaster base and insulation, reduces heat transfer through walls and ceilings, and adds sound quieting while preventing lath marks. It also resists moisture, helping plaster set by keeping moisture out of the framework.
Simple Cleaner For Washable Wallpaper
Washable wallpaper may be cleaned efficiently by a suds of mild soap and cold water. Apply clean cold water to a larger area then use suds with a sponge on a small area. Rub gently and remove with a clean damp sponge. A galvanized twin pail set streamlines rinsing. The Trumpeter Swan, weighing about 35 pounds, is the largest flying bird.
Beet Cups: Summer Salad Appetizers
Beets are prepared to stand upright by trimming their bottoms and hollowing the tops. The hollow is filled with a mix of finely diced celery, cooked green peas, salad dressing, and seasonings for a decorative side dish.
