Prices were steady to stronger across the Georgia-Florida bright leaf tobacco markets in Valdosta and Moultrie as the second day of sales opened. Growers held leaf hoping for higher prices with markets near capacity. Moultrie offered 4 cents for the poorest nondescript leaf and 56 to 58 cents for the best grades.
President Truman signed a senate joint resolution voiding about 175 wartime and emergency laws. He noted some powers remain and asked Attorney General Clark to study ending the remaining war statutes.

Stella Grogan 55 longtime superintendent at the college infirmary died today from heart trouble. A short service will be held here tomorrow and the body sent to Lithonia Georgia for burial.

A Carroll County jury convicted Eddie Brown Jr 22 of murdering white farmer David Andrew Boyd 23 and sentenced him to death. Judge Samuel Boykin stayed the sentence pending an August 23 hearing on a new-trial appeal filed by the Negro defendant's court-appointed counsel.

In Washington on July 25 Senator Barkley blocked a renewed drive to bring up Kemp's resolution to probe Attorney General Clark's handling of the Kansas City vote fraud cases. Barkley, noting no filibuster, debated time usage with Kemp and Republican leaders conceded defeat after an 18 hour attempt to adjourn.
In Rocky Mount Frederick Cropper, a Negro suspect, was bound over to Edgecombe superior court after a preliminary hearing. He was identified by Mrs. J M Roland as the assailant who broke into her home on June 22. Judge Ben Thomas found probable cause for first degree burglary and ordered him held without bond. Authorities say Mrs Daniel could not positively identify him.
