Maine bishop blames dissidents over women priests dispute
In a June 26 letter to 11 women priests and three officiating bishops, Bishop Frederick B. Wolf condemns actions around the Philadelphia ordinations as contributing to the New Orleans bishop Iveson B. Noland’s Kennedy Airport crash death. He acknowledges no direct blame but calls the consequences of dissent part of the tragedy and cites “lesser prices” paid by the church at a New York meeting. The letter draws sharp protests from the recipients and others.
