Caruthersville Mo July 24 delayed an hour by engine trouble which sent the Bogie downstream three miles. Dr Louis Leroy started from Caruthersville at 10 20 a m after covering 857 miles from New Orleans in 67 hours 16 minutes. To equal the 59 year old Robert E Lee record he must cover 395 miles to St Louis in about 23 hours.
Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald announced in the House of Commons that Britain will suspend work on the cruisers Surrey and Northumberland, cancel the Maidstone submarine depot ship, scrap two submarine contracts, and slow dockyard naval construction. The 1929 30 program will be reviewed before further commitments as parity with the United States is pursued through an international agreement to reduce armaments.
Mrs. Jack Kearns says four men raided her New York apartment yesterday. She claims the raid was staged by her estranged husband Jack Dempsey's former manager to obtain evidence to avoid alimony payments.

Chicago dispatch reports Cicero’s laramie dog racing track known as Al Capone’s dog track raided by 40 state police officers from the state attorney’s office. Track officials were barred from paying winners, doors were smashed, 65 track staff were arrested, and attorney Lustfield was taken away after a fist fight.
