Monday Strike Overshadows Relief Projects In High Point
Workers on relief projects demanded 1.50 for a six hour day rather than 80 cents as the High Point Unemployed League strike left relief work idle yesterday. The Public Welfare board announced workers will return Monday while appeals for higher pay are reviewed. Local officials cited the program as community cooperation not a definite job assignment. Authorities discussed a 30 cent minimum wage plan reported from Washington, but no official notice had been received.

Blanket Code Approved
President Roosevelt endorses a plan to raise wages and shorten hours by August 31 for most workers. The program, prepared by Hugh G. Johnson, calls for wage floors by city size, hourly limits, and exemptions for small towns and certain professions. The aim is to boost purchasing power to meet rising production and prices.
Highlights of the Voluntary Blanket Code of the President
Summary of a government voluntary code setting effective August 1 with wage scales across city sizes from 12 to 15 dollars and overtime rules. It bans child labor with minor exceptions, caps hours for clerical and sales workers, limits factory hours, and allows 40 hour weeks in six weeks. Prices may rise only with costs or taxes, and codes run until a national code is approved. Submission deadline September 1.
Employers pledge on price restraint and fair competition
The document quotes a White House message urging all employers to sign a national plan to raise wages create jobs and boost purchasing power. It stresses that wage and price agreements must reflect actual costs and prohibit profiteering, urging prompt action if codes unfairly burden any group.
