Bond Revoked in Slaying Case of 14 Year Old Donna Irwin
A 19 year old man, Steven Michael Irwin, brother of 14 year old Donna Leigh Irwin, had his bond revoked after his sister was found fatally harmed by strangulation near the family home in White's Trailer Court on S Main Street. Deputies say the revocation was the bondsman’s decision and the sheriff's department had no role in re arresting him. Donna Irwin disappeared Thursday evening after being seen at Sky City Discount Store. The body was found about 2:30 am near the trailer park, with a bloodied face and evidence of assault. The sheriff's department continues a standard investigation with no disclosed suspects at this time. Donna Irwin, longtime Archdale resident and Norfolk native, attended Allen Jay School.

Pollution chief cites solid waste disposal as top problem
Greensboro sanitation head Owen Braughler told the Civitan Club that disposal of solid waste dominates pollution issues in Guilford County. He listed junk cars, old appliances, aluminum pie plates and nondegrading bags as troublesome. He noted a Kernersville crusher will help with junk cars and will handle refrigerators and stoves. He warned septic tanks in subdivisions saturate soil and that streams rise within the county, limiting waste runoff. He blamed auto engines for the main air problem and praised 22 local firms adding stack devices to cut carbon. He added High Point will stop burning 4000 to 5000 gallons of varnish and paint at its landfill after Sept 1.
